It was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth 2nd in 1977 and has 1,300 beds and employs 6,000 people. Popularly referred to as QMC, this was the first purpose built teaching hospital in the UK, and consists of the University Hospital of the University of Nottingham and the university's Medical School.
