Carbon free homes for student market

STUDENTS concerned about their “carbon footprint” can now get hold of environmentally-friendly properties.
National rental firm Grant Management has 118 properties in Liverpool which they guarantee are 100% carbon-free.
It is understood to be the first firm to offer this kind of property in the city.
John Metcalfe, property agent for the area, said offering 100% carbon free homes was a great unique selling point as people, generally, were becoming more green-minded.
He said: “We’ve had a fantastic pre-let season in Liverpool and one of our busiest weeks ever since we opened in the city two years ago.
“There is always a demand for high-quality rental accommodation in the city.
“All of our homes are 100% carbon neutral homes which is a great unique selling point as people are becoming more conscious of their own carbon footprint.”
The company is able to claim their properties are carbon-free as they off-set the carbon generated in the home by planting trees through the charitable arm of the firm Global Trees.
By doing this, the tenant can be assured that their home is not having a negative impact on the planet’s health.
Energy-saving products, such as light bulbs, are fitted as standard, which also means tenants save money on bills.
Founder Peter Grant said their work has won them praise from a number of bodies.
He added: “We know students of today want to make a difference.
“Not only do they want safe, quality, secure accommodation, but they’re taking a pro-active stance when it comes to the issues of global warming.”
Global Trees is currently working with a number of student unions, helping them off-set the carbon they use.
Since the charity’s inception more than 100,000 trees have been planted.
